Illuminated Medieval Manuscripts

The students in Art III completed a study of illuminated manuscripts created during the early, middle, and late medieval periods in history. These works were traditionally created on vellum (calfskin) and finished with ink, colored pigment, and gold leaf. The students created their own manuscript page based on an excerpt from a fairy tale, religious story, or one of their own stories. Below are several samples from this year’s class:
