Expressionist Woodcut Printmaking

The Art III students worked with Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) student teacher William Barr to complete a study of the origins of the Expressionist movement (early 20th century) and the artists in Germany who brought fame to Expressionist woodcut printmaking. The works of Franz Marc, Emile Nolde, Otto Mueller, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Beckmann, and Käthe Kollwitz were studied as possible styles for the students to imitate. For more information on this movement, be sure to visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) website. Below are several examples of completed prints from the 1st hour Art III class.
