Color Field Painting

Students in Art III recently completed paintings based on our study of the Color Field movement (1945-1960) that dominated the mid-century art scene. The students’ focus of the study was based on Mark Rothko’s evolution as a painter and his infamous Seagrams Murals that were originally designed for the Four Seasons restaurant in New York City, but are now displayed in London’s Tate Modern.

The following paintings are just a sample of the work created by the 1st hour Art III class.
