The 6th Art III students began their project by studying the origins and controversies surrounding the iconic “Barbie” toy, then manipulated and redesigned a “normal” Barbie or Ken doll to reflect important societal issues in today’s culture. In order to help convey the societal theme, students could create their own props, clothing, and “play sets” to accompany their doll. After the dolls were complete, the students appropriately named the doll so it tied into their theme. Below are several examples from this years’ Art III class.
