What is the central idea of your concentration?

The central idea of my concentration is about universal feelings or emotions. Personally, I see feelings as colors so I tried to resemble those in my work. I purposely tried to keep my work subjective so that the viewer could have their own interpretations.

How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea?

In my concentration, each color goes with an emotion. Some are obvious such as light blue (work 5) being the feeling of sadness or red (work 1) being the feeling of love. However, I also put in some colors that maybe aren’t too obvious such as magenta (work 8) being lust, brown (work 11) being security, or black (work 12) being anger. Some of my other pieces include: pink (work 9) being innocence, royal blue (work 6) being powerful or royal, orange (work 2) being happiness, tan (work 10) being bored or dull, green (work 4) being environmental, yellow (work 3) being rebellious, and purple (work 7) being whimsical. I painted the same type of figure in the middle and then I painted a shape that I thought went with the corresponding feeling behind the figure. For the background, I did a collage of the corresponding color. I made some of the magazine cutouts overlap the figures so it gives the sense that they are being engulfed in their feelings. Some of the cutouts might not seem to go along with the feeling, but I did that on purpose to emphasize that feelings are complicated. If the same picture were shown to different people, they could all have unique interpretations about that picture.
