Students Win Awards at the USAO Innovations Competition, New Art I Artwork, and Scholastic Awards

Congratulations goes out to Zach Matthews (Best in Show Award), Claire Cauthan (Judge’s Choice), Caden Mock (Award of Merit), and Paige Nguyen (Award of Merit) who all received awards for their work submitted to the 2020 Innovations Competition at the University of Science and Arts (USAO). More than 300 artworks from across Oklahoma were submitted. The ceremony and reception will be Friday, March 13 at 1pm in Davis Hall on the USAO campus. Images of these artworks will be posted on Instagram (@mrpayneart) after the reception on the 13th.

The students in the 1st, 3rd, and 7th hour Art I classes completed a study of abstract self-portraiture by creating either two 9″ x 12″ portraits or one 18″ x 24″ portrait using a minimum of two media. To see examples from this project, click here.

The Yukon Chapter of the National Art Honor Society will hold their meeting this week during ReThink. Please see Mr. Payne if you have questions.

Six students were recently honored at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Gold Key ceremony at Oklahoma State University on Saturday. The students were also awarded $2,500 scholarships (each) to Oklahoma State University to further their studies. These students will now have their artwork juried at the national-level where they have the opportunity to receive additional recognition.
