Scholastic Awards, New Art II Paintings, and the Oklahoma Arts Institute

Congrats to Scholastic Regional Gold Key winners Kaitlyn Penick, Tien Tran, Jadyn Miranda, Taylor Frias, Alesis Contla, Clyde Ross, and Breanna Oden! These students were honored last Saturday in Tulsa during the Scholastic Art and Writing awards on the Tulsa Community College campus. Senior Tien Tran was also named one of only five students in the Oklahoma region to receive the “American Visions Award Nominee” from Scholastic. From the pool of nominees from across the country, an esteemed panel of jurors in New York City then one artist from each region to receive the American Visions. These medalists will be recognized at the National Ceremony and Art.Write.Now exhibition in New York City. All Gold Key winners will have their winning pieces advance to nationals, with the national winning artworks announced in March. 

The 1st hour Art II class recently completed their paintings incorporating radial symmetry, color theory, and gradients with tempera paint. Click here for more information and to see artwork examples.

Yukon High School is once again hosting auditions for the 2018 Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain. Auditions will be held on Friday, February 9 after 8th hour and Sunday, February 10 (Photography, Drawing & Painting, from noon to 6 pm. You must register by noon on Friday, February 9 in order to audition for the YHS audition site. Mr. Payne will hold practice sessions for drawing and painting everyday after-school next week from 2:45 to 3:45.
