Students Receive State Superintendent Award for Arts Excellence and New Art II Sculptures

Congratulations to Raylee Burns, Madelyn Novosad, Milissa Cagle, Leigh Ann Brook, and Ciara Walker who were awarded the Oklahoma State Superintendent Award for Arts Excellence. All five students received the award for visual arts, with Leigh Ann Brook receiving both the visual art and band award. YHS students Giorgia Patterson and Tori Venske also received the band for award.

Art III Collage Drawings and Upcoming Art Extravaganza

The 1st and 7th hour Art III classes studied the work of Oklahoma State University professor Angela Piehl and her methods of intertwining collage and drawing. Click here for more information on the project and several great examples of student work.

The annual Yukon High School Art Extravaganza is quickly approaching and Mr. Payne and Mrs. Adams are now accepting work to hang in the show. The exhibition will be Friday, May 19 from 5:30 – 8:00pm in the YHS Cafeteria. All YHS students are encouraged to submit work. All 2D artwork (drawings, photographs, flat paintings, etc.) must be matted or framed. Stretched canvas only needs to have a hanging wire attached. The Art Extravaganza attracts hundreds of people each year with over 250 works of art on display. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Payne or Mrs. Adams.

Students Honored at Young Talent in Oklahoma Ceremony

 

Ciara Walker – Bone King

Congratulations to AP Studio senior Ciara Walker whose senior portfolio placed 3rd in the state of Oklahoma in the 2017 Young Talent in Oklahoma exhibition. More than 80 senior portfolios were submitted for adjudication this year, but only 1o were selected to hang in the show. Ciara received a $500 scholarship and a new portfolio bag as part of her winnings. In addition to her portfolio award, she also received a Merit Award for her mixed-media work, Bone King. AP Studio junior Tien Tran also received a Merit Award for her watercolor and colored pencil work, Teatime. Only 10 Merit Awards were given this year.

YHS students Taryn Johnson, Danny Laffoon, Madelyn Novosad, and Matty Cauthan also had works selected to hang in this year’s show. Over 850 works of art were submitted for judging this year, but only 139 were selected to hang at the Garvey Center Gallery on the Oklahoma Christian University campus in Edmond from March 20 – April 1.
