Dakota Adams, Emily Hoebing, Jennifer Phan, and Tien Tran were recognized for their artwork at the 2015 Young Talent in Oklahoma reception held at the University of Oklahoma’s Fred Jones Jr. Museum Auditorium on Saturday.

The four students have had their work on display at the Lightwell Gallery on the OU campus since March 14. Dakota’s senior portfolio placed #2 in state and received scholarship money for his accomplishments. Emily, Jennifer, and Tien were each awarded a “General Exhibition Honor.”

Art Club Guest Speaker and New Art I Artwork

Art Club will host Yukon High School alum (’98) and artist Curtis Fletcher of Cannibal Graphics during our meeting this Wednesday. Mr. Fletcher will discuss his artistic influences and potential careers paths in the visual arts. Art Club meets in Mr. Payne’s room, S170, from 2:45 to 3:45 every Wednesday. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The 4th hour Art I class completed their Surrealism paintings and several examples from this project are now online.

4 Students Selected for Young Talent in Oklahoma, Adams Places 2nd in State

Congratulations to Dakota Adams, Emily Hoebing, Jennifer Phan, and Tien Tran for having their artwork selected for Young Talent in Oklahoma, the annual Oklahoma state high school art competition. This year’s competition was juried by Robert Bailey (University of Oklahoma art history professor), Donald Longcrier (Oklahoma City University sculpture professor), and Jason Zaloudik (Oklahoma City area artist).

Dakota’s senior portfolio of six works placed 2nd in state and he will receive a scholarship award for his achievement. There were 100 seniors who entered this year’s portfolio competition, and awards were given to the top 10 senior portfolios.

There were over 700 general entry submissions from 37 high schools across the state with only 110 works selected for exhibition. Emily, Jennifer, and Tien were each awarded a “General Exhibition Honor.” The selected student works from YHS are featured below:

New South Pacific Showtimes and Self-Portrait Contest

Due to the weather this week the Thursday performance of South Pacific has been rescheduled to 2PM on Sunday afternoon at the Yukon Fine Arts Center. Friday and Saturday performances (7pm) will go on as scheduled. Tickets purchased will be honored at any performance.
