Oklahoma Arts Institute Launches Student Film Contest

Summer Institute Admission and Cash Prizes Among Awards

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., — The Oklahoma Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain is holding its first Student Film Contest leading up to the 2014 Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI). The first place winner will receive automatic entry into the 2014 Film & Video program at OSAI; a $300 Amazon gift card; and will be featured in the 2014 deadCENTER Film Festival. First and second runners-up will also receive Amazon gift cards.

All contestants will have the option to use their contest submissions to apply for the 2014 OSAI Film & Video program; and will be awarded fee waivers for their Film & Video auditions.

High school students will have one week to create a three-minute film, using any technology they wish, including video-capable phones. Contestants will upload their submissions to an online video service of their choice and provide a link to their submissions when they apply online at Full contest rules will be posted at on January 20, 2014, and the application deadline will be noon on January 27. Winners will be announced on February 5.

The Oklahoma Arts Institute is currently accepting online applications and scheduling auditions for the state’s premier arts academy for high school students.

Held June 14 – 29, the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute is taught by nationally renowned artists and offers instruction in acting, creative writing, ballet, modern dance, orchestra, chorus, drawing/painting, photography, and film/video. Every accepted student automatically receives a full scholarship to the program, worth over $2,500.  Auditions begin in January at locations across the state, with scheduling available at

OSAI students are taught by award-winning faculty from across the United States.  Former OSAI faculty members have included winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Awards.  This year’s faculty includes Dean Irby (former acting coach for The Cosby Show) and Connie Imboden, whose photographs are featured in the permanent collections of museums all over the world, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

To attend OSAI, applicants must be enrolled in an Oklahoma public school, private school, or home-school program and must be at least 15 years old by September 1, 2014.  Graduating seniors are eligible.  For more information about OSAI, including audition requirements and audition scheduling, visit

Design Olympics at University of Central Oklahoma

This day-long series of events will make you flex your creative muscles towards problem-solving tasks, doodling and other activities. This event is 100% fun, allowing participants to interact with professional and student designers, complete with peers in design skill based events and experience what design school might feel like. Risk-takers, problem-solvers, puzzle-lovers and innovators at the high-school level or further along, looking for careers in graphic design or interior design are invited to participate. Materials and lunch are provided. There are many prizes to be won, including tuition waivers and scholarships. $5 for participants to register, accompanying educators may sign up for free.
